  2. Canelo Alvarez was 20 years old when he fought for the first time on a big pay-per-view card in Las Vegas, one that featured Floyd Mayweather’s fight with Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand. The red-headed Mexican prospect stopped Jose Cotto, Miguel’s brother, in nine rounds. The fact young Alvarez had talent was no secret.
  3. The blockbuster night of prizefighting hails from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The odds for this blockbuster bout and my analysis of the fight are below. Alvarez vs Kovalev Odds.

On Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez put on an impressively dominant display in the Las Vegas, Nevada T-Mobile Arena. The boxing phenom took on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a non-title fight grudge match that was highly anticipated.

Still, Alvarez pummeled his opponent as each round bled into the next. The bout ultimately went the distance, with Canelo Alvarez earning a unanimous decision victory over his opponent. However, the night did not end there.

Directly after Canelo Alvarez’s performance, another boxer made his way into the ring. Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin entered the ring and committed to a staredown with the night’s victor. Right then and there, Golovkin vs. Alvarez was announced for September 16.

The odds for Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin competing against Canelo Alvarez have become quite close. The odds currently stand -157 for Golovkin, with “Triple G” in the lead. Alvarez stands at +150.

With less than two weeks until the 'real' fight of the year takes place, many ringside observers, fans and prognosticators are unsure how the big unification bout between Canelo Alvarezand Gennady 'Triple G' Golovkin will inevitably play out.
While Triple G will enter the ring as the slight betting favorite, many former champions and current athletes are beginning to lean towards the Mexican native to pull off what would be considered a mild upset at (+135) odds.
Former champion and current ringside analyst Carl 'The Cobra' Froch recently told iFL TV online that the September 16 match-up could prove to be an instant classic.
'I think this fight is going to be really, really close...it's going to be a proper war,' claims the former WBC Super Middleweight champion. 'It's going to be one of those in which you rewind the tape and watch it over and over. It's going to be the type of fight you want to see again and again. This is what boxing is about...this is a great fight for boxing.'
Even though 'The Cobra' recognizes the many strengths of both combatants, the retired prizefighter believes Golovkin's primary weakness will prove to be his biggest detriment when he faces an accurate and creative counter puncher like Alvarez on September 16.
'Triple G's defense is good and his movement is good. But the older he gets and the more fights he has, he just seems to get hit with more shots on the end of his chin. He can take them...he's tough. But Alvarez will let shots go and they will land.
Triple G will land shots as well, and he's a big puncher...great fighter.'

'It's going to be close, but I think Canelo Alvarez is just going to have the edge in this one. If anyone can do it, I think Alvarez can.'

-----------------

Despite giving the Mexican national a slight edge, Froch does not believe the bout will end in a knock-out at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

'He isn't going to knock Golovkin out, because he's a tough kid from Kazakhstan...he's a hard man who's been bred hard. So I don't think he gets ironed out...I really don't. But I think he can and will get outpointed, because he gets hit with a lot of shots.

Alvarez will show you in a couple of weeks,' predicts the astute former champ. 'It'll be workrate, accuracy and constant pressure for twelve rounds that proves to be effective against a man like Golovkin.'
The highly anticipated Middleweight unification bout between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gennady 'Triple G' Golovkin is scheduled for twelve rounds of action and will be presented by Golden Boy Promotions, K2 Promotions, and HBO PPV.
